Hello all: I hope this finds you all doing well. The purpose of this e-mail is to formally invite you to Choral Leadership Day! The past 8 years have been such a success in helping students and teachers start the year off in a positive manner. We started with one site (Grand Island) with maybe 150 kids and last year we had over 480 students from 51 different high schools!! We are now expanding the conference to 3 days at 3 different sites: Norfolk Senior High, Sept 7, Grand Island Northwest Sept, 8th and at North Platte Senior High on Sept. 9th.
If you are like me, I am always looking for ways to help my choral leadership (section leaders, choir board, emerging leaders, dance captains, etc.) improve their leadership skills. So, for the past 10 years, I have put together a day in which we learn how to run a sectional, how to lead your peers, and how to develop, or hone your student’s and your own leadership skills AND it is all geared for high school choral students!! Paul Gulsvig, Dina Else, Neal Schoor and Fritz Mountford will be our presenters this year. They will be sharing their ideas on recruiting, keeping kids in choir, how to run your own sectionals, and being the best “you” you can be. Neal Schoor, a, Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Executive Affaris-UNK, and will be doing an interactive presentation on leadership skills and how to develop them with in yourself and your choir. Fritz Mountford, Director of Choirs for Hastings College, will be teaching us about how different students learn and therefore how you must change how you teach and lead. Dina Else Voice Instructor and Vocal Clinician from Des Moines, IA, will be presenting her “Key Concepts” for the voice and choral singing, and Paul Gulsvig, from Onalaska, WI. will be inspiring us with his always motivational presentations. Each of them will be dealing with the above topics, plus a host of others. The day will run from9:00 a.m-.3:00 p.m. in the theater at Norfolk, Northwest and North Platte. It can be a select group of choir students, or some schools have brought their whole choir. (and yes, middle schoolers can come also get rid of also…)
The cost will be 30.00 per student with the directors being free. This does not include any meals.
Please let me know if you are interested or have any questions. You reserve your spot simply by responding to this email and letting me know if you are going to the Norfolk, Grand Island or North Platte site.
If you are going to the Grand Island site, know that we reserve a room at Valentinos to eat lunch. Usually it is 10.00 per person (which includes pop and tip). Norfolk and North Platte sites, sorry, but this is unavailable. Maybe just take this sentence out…or say ‘Norfolk and North Platte will have a variety of nearby restaurants to choose from.’
REGARDLESS OF SITE: If you are going to any site, Please write all checks to CHORAL STRATEGIES. Not to Northwest High School (Thank you!) You might want to highlight this in a different Bold font and color if it’s been a problem…
Please reserve your spot via e-mail by SEPT 1. Hope you can make it, it’s going to be a great day!
